The Magical Methods Behind “The Fabulous Five”
Food is life and therefore cooking is essential…but to me (and I hope you too) cooking is just damn fun! If you’re not quite there yet, keep reading because I’m going to give you the magic you need to make cooking fun, friendly, fantastic, and best of all…freaking delicious! Are you ready? I’d like to introduce you to what I call, “The Fabulous Five”!

 

The Fabulous Five are the magical methods I’m teaching you throughout Chef Gerrie using recipes for all levels of experience with a lot of room to make them your own. With over 35 years experience as a Culinary Instructor you can trust that I’ve got the know-how, expert tips, tricks, and secrets to boil this cooking thing down without scrimping on flavor or fun.

The Fabulous Five:

  1. Roasting
  2. Poaching
  3. Sautéing
  4. Frying
  5. Braising

Each of these techniques results in a finished product with its own unique flavor profile, texture, and appearance. These methods are universal, globally speaking, and used within every culture and cuisine. Once you understand these five simple methods you can just about cook anything, and that’s what I want for you.

Now, with that said, these Fabulous Five are the essentials of cooking, not the only way to get the job done. Baking, for instance, is a whole other animal…sure it’s the same heat source you use in roasting, but the special techniques required for baking need their own blog posts. There’s also grilling, smoking, and stir frying, but these essentials will get you moving in the meantime.

So stick with me because Chef Gerrie is here to break down each of these essentials and untangle  so you can achieve success in your kitchen.
